Gearing up for the Brampton Job Fair

We are moving quickly through 2020 and approaching the first job fair from the Trucking Network. March 7th brings us to the Brampton Job Fair at the Pearson Convention Centre and the busiest job fair of the year. I remember last year at the job fair. It was a wintery day as I drove to Brampton. On the way there I was thinking to myself, “Nobody is going to be attending on a snowy day like this.” That’s why I was a little surprised to find a full parking lot. In fact I got the last parking spot and was really shocked at the amount of people that were inside.

The Brampton job fair is the largest event for a number of reasons. First The Trucking Network is located in the Brampton area so their audience is well established in that community. Secondly the largest concentration of trucking companies are located in the Brampton / Mississauga area as it is a major transportation hub for industry. It is also one of the largest population of immigrants in the Brampton area allowing for many to have an interest in jobs and careers. This makes the location of the job fair one of the best of the year. So what can you expect for one of the largest job fairs of the year?

There are a number of reasons why you want to do a little homework for the job fair so that you get the most benefit from attending the show. There will be many different types of carriers in the venue and they will all have there information and people ready to talk with you. As an attendee looking for a job you will want to be prepared as well. Have your resume ready to go and bring some paper copies in a file folder that can be given to recruiters. I suggest uploading an electronic version on your mobile device should you run out of copies and have to email an electronic version to a recruiter.

A visit to The Trucking Network website would be a good idea before the show to see which carriers will be at the show. Write down the carriers of interest to you and visit their websites to get the details such as pay package, area of travel, and background information on the company. Recruiters will be very busy at the event so asking them only important questions about information that can’t be found on the website will give the you the best opportunity to help you make a decision. Have a note pad or take notes on your mobile device so that you can evaluate the details upon your return home.

The Trucking Network has been famous for giving away cash prizes at their events and you certainly don’t want to miss out on that. Most job fairs they have been giving away a total of $3000 split into several prizes from $500 to $1000 each. This is why registering for the event is important because this is how you get entered into the draws. Check in as soon as you arrive and keep an eye on your mobile phone and listen for event announcements at the venue. In the past they have called people that were winners to come and claim their prize.

Visit the vendors in the room as many of them will have their own contests and giveaways happening. You never know you may come out a winner from the day and get started in a new career at the same time. Now is the time to get ready for the job fair, being prepared is the secret to a successful event. Know who you want to talk with and who will be in attendance. I hope to see you there.
