The Anatomy of a Microbreak

It is important to take breaks throughout the day.  If you are a trucker, certain rest breaks are required by hours of service laws.  While long, restorative breaks are necessary to keep healthy and rested when on the road, microbreaks are another type of break drivers should incorporate into their routine.

A microbreak is a break from the activity you have been doing that lasts a short period of time (like 5 minutes).  In a microbreak, you stop doing what you were doing and focus on some other type of activity for a short period of time.

Driving can get monotonous and tiring.  Consider taking short stops throughout the day to simply walk around the truck once or twice.  Depending on what you are hauling, you will need breaks anyways to monitor your tires and/or load securement, so instead of rushing through these safety stops take the time to stretch and loosen up a bit before hitting the road.
