The Door Isn’t Load Securement

Van and reefer doors are strong and can take a beating.  However, they should not be used as part of your load securement system.  While the doors can do a lot to keep cargo contained, proper securement inside the trailer is essential to keep cargo in its place.

A big hazard with unsecure cargo at the back of the trailer is that it can fall on whoever opens the door.  If the cargo shifts, it may even cause the door to fail.  For these reasons, you should not use the doors to brace a load and instead should use proper tiedowns and other equipment to keep the cargo safe and secure.
