The Ambassador Bridge, the busiest land border crossing between the U.S. and Canada, reopened Sunday night just before midnite after police cleared and arrested a lingering group of protesters demonstrating against COVID-19 vaccine mandates.

“Today, our national economic crisis at the Ambassador Bridge came to an end,” the mayor of Windsor, Drew Dilkens, said on Sunday. “Border crossings will reopen when it is safe to do so.

In Ottawa, this morning, the situation is much less clear, after a supposed agreement between Ottawa mayor Jim Watson, and Tamara Lich, a protest organizer, suggested that the truckers, whose grievances with a vaccine mandate kicked off the demonstrations, had agreed to a deal in which the truckers would move their vehicles from residential neighborhoods.

But a video by Pat King, a right-wing white supremacist, who says he speaks for the truckers and demonstrators,  has told them to remain in position and not move.

Trudeau and his cabinet met after 10 pm Sunday. Today Trudeau is supposed to meet virtually with premiers of all provinces over the ongoing protests, border closures, and unrest.

Valentines Day may see action against groups that have used a Freedom message to spread hatred, while a fed-up Nation awaits long-term resolution.
