Mind the Cyclists

The relationship between cyclists and drivers can become adversarial at times.  When vehicles with mismatched speed potentials are mixed on a single roadway, certain hazards present themselves.

While some drivers may not appreciate having to share the roadway with cyclists, the fact is cyclists are legally permitted to ride on the roadway in many jurisdictions.  Regardless of legality, it is the job of a professional driver to drive in such a way that they watch out for the safety of others, so with warm weather keep an eye out for cyclists.

As much as possible, move over from cyclists so that you don’t scare them and/or blow them over with your wind.  Always slow down when passing them, and remember that we all must share the road.  Truckers that show courtesy to other road users increase the positive image of the industry.
