Hot Weather, Hot Tires

With warmer weather coming up and places in Western Canada already seeing summer weather interspersed with wet and cold spells, it is time to assess your summertime tire strategy.  Warmer weather and hot pavement will increase wear on your tires, so pay extra special attention to them as they begin to approach the end of their lifespans.

2/32 of an inch (1.6 mm) of tread depth on a steering axle tire in two adjacent grooves is an out-of-service condition; for other tires, it is 1/32 of an inch (0.8 mm).  But, don’t try to get right down to these numbers before replacing your tires.  It is easy to misjudge the amount of distance left in a tire, so if you are close to the wear limit start shopping; you may also get a better amount for your casing credit (if applicable to your tires).
