Grant of $10K Each for Driver Training and Wage Incentive to New Drivers to Address Labour Shortage

With an aim to address the labour shortage and supply chain issues, the federal government will give funds worth $20k for the training and onboarding of drivers and other workers in trucking industry. The initiative has been taken under the Trucking HR Canada’s Career Expressway Program. 

Trucking HR Canada stated that the funding includes $10K grant for the training of the drivers and $10K for the wage incentive to onboard the drivers after training. 

The most important aspect of this program being; drivers of all age groups are eligible. Also, this grant will benefit the new recruits as well as existing employees who want to upskill themselves as drivers. 

According to the eligibility criteria, interested employees must be Canadian Citizens, Permanent Residents, or should have a Refugee status and legally allowed to work as per provincial registration. 

In addition, the employer should have a clean track record of HR practices and should submit enrolment proof, driving school invoice, pay stubs with tax deductions, employment insurance, Canada pension plan etc.
