Brake Checks

No matter what season it is, it is never safe to operate without properly-working brakes.  The week of August 22-28, 2021 will be the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s Brake Safety Week, and during that time extra special attention will be paid to the brake systems on commercial vehicles by law enforcement.

Commercial vehicle enforcement is always looking for brake defects, so make sure these systems operate properly all the time.  Proper driver vehicle inspections are the key to identifying defects between services, so mechanics should not be the only ones checking the brake systems.

While disc brakes mean that there are no pushrods to measure, the overall condition of the rotors and other brake components still must be defect-free; under-vehicle inspections are an important part of a driver’s routine no matter what type of brake system is being used.
